2019年小學(xué)英語晨讀練習(xí)：《The farmer and his sons》

　　A farmer had five sons. They were strong and hardworking. But they always quarreled with one another. Sometimes， they even fought.

　　一位農(nóng)夫有五個(gè)兒子，個(gè)個(gè)都身強(qiáng)體健，辛勤勞動(dòng)。但是他們總是互相吵架，有時(shí)候還會(huì)打起來。

　　The farmer wanted his sons to stop quarrelling and fighting. He wanted them to live in peace. Plain words of advice or scolding did not have much effect on these young people. The farmer always thought what to do to keep his sons united.

　　農(nóng)夫想讓兒子們不再爭(zhēng)吵打架，想讓他們和平共處。但是建議和責(zé)罵對(duì)這些年輕人都沒什么效果，農(nóng)夫總是在想辦法讓兒子們團(tuán)結(jié)起來。

　　One day he found an answer to the problem. So he called all his sons together.

　　有一天他想出了一個(gè)辦法，于是把兒子們都召集到一起。

　　He showed them a bundle of sticks and said， “I want any of you to break these sticks without separating them from the bundle.”

　　他拿出一捆棍子，對(duì)他們說：“你們有誰能把這一捆棍子折斷嗎？”

　　Each of the five sons tried one by one. They used their full strength and skill. But none of them could break the sticks.

　　五個(gè)兒子每個(gè)人都試了試，但是他們用盡全力都沒能折斷整捆棍子。

　　Then the old man separated the sticks and gave each of them just a single stick to break. They broke the sticks easily.

　　然后，老人把棍子解開，給五個(gè)兒子一人一根，結(jié)果很輕松就掰斷了。

　　The farmer said， “A single stick by itself is weak. It is strong as long as it is tied up in a bundle. Likewise， you will be strong if you are united. You will be weak if you are divided.”

　　農(nóng)夫說：“一根棍子容易斷，但是綁成一捆就很難折斷了。同樣的，如果你們團(tuán)結(jié)在一起就會(huì)變得更強(qiáng)大，但如果心不齊，就會(huì)不堪一擊。”
